La Habana, 5 de enero de 2017.- El carb\u00f3n de marab\u00fa fabricado de manera artesanal ser\u00e1 el primer producto cubano que acceda al mercado estadounidense en medio del bloqueo que impone Washington sobre la inmensa mayor\u00eda de los bienes producidos en la Isla.<\/p>\n

La empresa cubana CUBAEXPORT firm\u00f3 este jueves un contrato de compraventa internacional con la compa\u00f1\u00eda estadounidense COABANA TRADING LLC para la exportaci\u00f3n de carb\u00f3n vegetal.<\/p>\n

Se espera que los primeros env\u00edos se despachen a mediados de este mes de enero, seg\u00fan dijo a la prensa la directora general de CUBAEXPORT, Isabel O’Reilly Ca\u00f1a. \u201cEst\u00e1n listos dos contenedores de 20 toneladas cada uno para explorar el terreno, pero tenemos mucha m\u00e1s disponibilidad\u201d, a\u00f1adi\u00f3.<\/p>\n

El precio acordado para la venta es de 420 d\u00f3lares por tonelada, se\u00f1al\u00f3 O’Reilly, tras destacar que los vol\u00famenes de exportaci\u00f3n de carb\u00f3n de marab\u00fa han ido en aumento en la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada. Cuba env\u00eda al exterior anualmente entre 40 mil y 80 mil toneladas a diferentes naciones del orbe, en especial de Europa.<\/p>\n

El carb\u00f3n de marab\u00fa, una planta invasora muy com\u00fan en los campos a lo largo de la isla, viene ganando fama internacional por el sabor que aporta a las comidas y por evitar la deforestaci\u00f3n que tradicionalmente conlleva este tipo de producciones.<\/p>\n

Scott Gilbert, director de COABANA, destac\u00f3 las oportunidades que se abren con la firma de este convenio. A\u00f1adi\u00f3 que sus aspiraciones van mucho m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del carb\u00f3n e incluyen otros productos como la miel y el caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Gilbert precis\u00f3 que al tiempo que las cooperativas cubanas limpian los terrenos de marab\u00fa para dedicarlos a otras producciones org\u00e1nicas, los estadounidenses tendr\u00e1n la oportunidad de disfrutar un excelente carb\u00f3n vegetal.<\/p>\n

Ante una pregunta sobre el futuro del clima de negocios una vez que Donald Trump asuma la presidencia de los Estados Unidos, Gilbert hizo votos porque la nueva administraci\u00f3n observe estos avances, as\u00ed como los acuerdos que se han firmado hasta ahora. \u00abSi de verdad se cree en el libre comercio, esto es lo que deber\u00edamos estar haciendo\u00bb, a\u00f1adi\u00f3.<\/p>\n

El empresario estadounidense se\u00f1al\u00f3 que est\u00e1 dispuesto a seguir trabajando con la pr\u00f3xima administraci\u00f3n como lo ha venido haciendo con la de Barack Obama para aumentar los intercambios comerciales entre ambos pa\u00edses.<\/p>\n

La posibilidad de exportar una reducida lista de bienes y servicios al mercado estadounidense, bajo estrictas condiciones, es resultado de las medidas tomadas por el gobierno de Obama que modifican algunos aspectos del bloqueo.<\/p>\n

En febrero de 2015, la Direcci\u00f3n de Asuntos Econ\u00f3micos y Empresariales norteamericana actualiz\u00f3 la Secci\u00f3n 515.582 para incluir una serie de productos cubanos que pod\u00edan ser importados desde Estados Unidos, siempre y cuando se demostrara que proven\u00edan del sector no estatal.<\/p>\n

Si bien la lista se volvi\u00f3 a actualizar en abril del pasado a\u00f1o para incluir el caf\u00e9, la inmensa mayor\u00eda de las producciones nacionales quedaron fuera de la autorizaci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como todas las empresas de propiedad social.<\/p>\n

Qued\u00f3 prohibido importar de Cuba animales vivos, productos vegetales (a excepci\u00f3n del caf\u00e9), alimentos procesados, bebidas, licores y vinagre. Adem\u00e1s, se excluy\u00f3 el tabaco y substitutos manufacturados del tabaco, los productos minerales y de la industria qu\u00edmica, textiles, entre muchos otros.<\/p>\n

Por otro lado, las leyes vigentes del bloqueo establecen estrictas condiciones para cualquier tipo de transacci\u00f3n. Cuba fue unilateralmente desprovista \u2014despu\u00e9s de decretado el bloqueo\u2014 del tratamiento de naci\u00f3n m\u00e1s favorecida, que por derecho le correspond\u00eda como Estado fundador de la Organizaci\u00f3n Mundial del Comercio, de ah\u00ed quecualquier producto cubano que se quiera exportar a los Estados Unidos tiene que pagar las m\u00e1s altas tarifas aduanales.<\/p>\n
